When a scene is set in a kitchen, we want it to look like a kitchen someone actually uses. When it is set in an office, the desk should look like it has papers on it because someone left them there.
Lighting is one of the things we spend the most time on. Sheer pantyhose lives and dies on reflection, and getting that right takes more effort than people assume. We use a mix of natural light and controlled sources, and we adjust per scene rather than trying to standardize everything. Some scenes want hard light that catches the shine.
